Prevnar 13

Prevnar 13 is a vaccine that protects against 13 kinds of infections caused by the pneumococcal bacteria.

Pneumococcal disease is a serious infection caused by a bacteria. It can infect the sinuses and the inner ear. In later stages or complications it can affect the lungs, blood, and the brain  -which are usually fatal.

Prevnar 13 works just like any other vaccine and helps you get immunized against this bacteria – thus preventing you from serious complications. Of course, there is no 100% guarantee and this vaccine will not treat an active infection that has already developed in the body -plus if you are super unlucky you might experience some side effects.

But, the cost of not taking this vaccine is way, way, worst.

This vaccine is administered to kids and people who are 50 years old and above. You can read more here and here for more information.

Vaccine against Pneumonia

I am in no way affiliates or anything with Prevnar 13 or any pharmaceutical companies. This vaccine was suggested by my family doctor and was administered to my mother two years back -she was 61 years old at that time.

The reason, I decided to write about this is because: Two people unfortunately – whom I know personally- did not listen to doctor’s advice and well are now suffering from pneumonia, their conditions maybe bit serious… God bless them.

So yes, I want to create awareness and so, I decided to write this post. There are people like my late grandma 93 who lived well and healthy without this vaccine. But it is always better to be safe than sorry.

If you are 50+ years old, then take this vaccine.

But first consult with your doctor and check your medical condition, before you take in any drugs or vaccines.

If you are a young chap reading this, then consider -with your doctor’s advice- gifting this vaccine to your parents who maybe 50 and above.
