Aadik: Chess Prodigy Portfolio

aadik

Greetings, I am Aadik Theophane Lenin, an 11-year-old chess enthusiast from Kanyakumari, currently residing and studying in Ernakulam, Kerala, at Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir. My chess journey began at the tender age of 7, sparked by a television advertisement featuring Grand Master Vishwanathan Anand. The ad’s tagline, “Chess vilayadurathu easy illa: elathaium pakkanum theliva pakkanum” (Playing chess is not easy: you need to look at everything clearly), and “Checkmate the Specs Makers,” piqued my curiosity and led me to request a chessboard from my father. With no prior knowledge of the game, I started learning the rules from the instructions provided on the back of the board, with my father’s guidance.

My passion for chess quickly grew, and I soon began professional coaching to refine my skills. Chess has become an integral part of my life, so much so that I cannot imagine my existence without it. Under the mentorship of Coach Sai Prahlad K, I have achieved notable success in the chess world. My dedication has led me to win multiple titles, becoming an Arena International Master, being a champion at the Kerala State Under 10 and Under 11 Chess Championships in 2022, 2023 and securing top positions in various district and national competitions.

Through rigorous training and strategic play, I aim to continue my ascent in the chess world, with aspirations to participate in international championships and achieve grandmaster status. My journey in chess is not just a pursuit of titles but a testament to the joy and intellectual stimulation the game brings to my life.

Chess is my primary passion, and I dedicate most of my time and effort to mastering it. Balancing my academic responsibilities, I’ve found that chess significantly enhances my ability to quickly memorize and learn new information. My school has been incredibly supportive of my chess endeavors. I began my chess basics from my first coach, M.D. Antony Sir from Kerala. When our academy had to close temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I transitioned to online coaching with Seed Succeed Academy, under the guidance of K. Sai Prahlad Sir from Chennai.

Training Regimen:

After school, I get home by 4 PM and start my chess practice at 5 PM, dedicating four hours on weekdays and eight hours on weekends. While I enjoy basketball, football, and cricket, and particularly admire Lionel Messi, I’m currently focusing more on chess, consciously reducing the time spent on watching sports to enhance my immersion in chess training.

I would advise peers my age to take up chess along with other sports. Chess is a great way to improve quick learning, cognitive skills, and strategic thinking. I firmly believe that playing chess stimulates the brain and offers immense benefits, making it an excellent activity for students our age.

Notable Games and Analysis:

Goals and Aspirations

Initially, I was inspired by Viswanathan Anand, but now my admiration has expanded to include Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen, whose playing style I greatly respect and aim to emulate. Additionally, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa stands out to me as a humble and focused player, qualities I admire and aspire to replicate in my own journey towards becoming a grandmaster and, ultimately, a world chess champion.

His dedication is not just about winning games; it’s about mastering the art of chess, which he pursues with the tenacity of a seasoned entrepreneur, self-motivated and diligent.

What truly makes Aadik stand out is his humility and his perspective on life and chess. He respects the game and carries himself with a grace that belies his age. It is this combination of raw talent, hard work, and humility that I believe will take him far in his chess journey. It’s imperative for Aadik to maintain this humility and grounded nature, as these are the qualities that will sustain his growth and success in the long run.
